Reiki Principles and How it Works
Hey loves!
Mikao Usui taught reiki healing in Japan. It has a fairly recent history though the healing art we now call reiki is as ancient as the earth. In our current culture, there are standard principles and ways of practicing that are shared among many energy healers.
Reiki means "universal life force" in Japanese, and was so named by Mikao Usui, a Japanese scholar, around 1920. Through his intensive life long study of energy and reiki healing, he determined that the reiki healer must maintain a vibrational frequency conducive to transferring divine healing energy. The practitioner and the receiver must uphold the purest of intentions. The effects directly correlate to the sincerity and authenticity of these combined intentions.
In order to maintain the energy necessary to provide the most effective reiki healing, a practitioner relies on daily principles that guide their foundational thoughts and create their reality. These principles are:
Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will not be angry.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
Just for today, I will love my neighbor and every living thing.
We say "just for today" because this is a very present, realistic commitment we can make to ourselves, every day. We should also forgive ourselves if we weren't able to live up to our intentions the day before. This gives us a fresh start every day.
A reiki master holds the responsibility of attuning new reiki healers, and leveling up practice reiki healers. Only a reiki master can teach reiki healing. There are 3 levels of reiki. Everyone begins at level I, where the healer practices giving reiki on him or herself. At this level, the healer practices with specific hand positions and symbols. The symbols carry the activation of attuning to this universal life force flow. Level II healing involves more symbols that attune the healer to hands on and distance healing directed towards others. The third level marks a Reiki master, where the practitioner becomes the teacher.
The structure and style of healing varies from person to person. Giving reiki uses deeply intuitive energy. Sometimes the giver experiences energetic downloads, and sometimes the receiver experiences spiritual breakthroughs. This can happen during or after transmission.
The giver and receiver must maintain good hydration and energy care during and after a session. A lot of cleansing and detoxing causes energy to move around and can stir up disease in order for it to release. The toxic energy may manifest as crying, yelling, aches and pains, vomiting and diarrhea. This is all normal. Remain steadfast in practices that cleanse the body in order for this to pass efficiently.
Reiki sessions promote the movement of stagnant energy. It is possible to clear it out completely in one session, though multiple sessions provide well rounded support for this process.
Reiki alleviates many types of disease. From the energetic perspective, all disease begins with an affliction of the energetic body. The trauma we experience on an emotional and spiritual level manifests as disease, whether that is an acute or chronic illness. Reiki reaches into the depths of our aura and invigorates stagnant atoms that have carried traumas so that it can fully break apart and flow outward.
Tension is trauma manifest. The more we focus on healing the trauma, the less disease we will feel in our bodies. This is the basis of Reiki healing.
Reiki healers level up through their own journey of healing themselves and as they heal themselves more and more, they can then heal others.
I would love to hear about your experience with reiki healing. If you haven't tried it yet, please book a session with me for virtual healing!
